HP 200LX connecting…
PCMCIA slot
Modem in the PCMCIA slot (drive A: ejected). Open DataComm, set MENU → Settings → Communications port to COM2, then type ATDT 200 — you're on the guestbook BBS. Pick CF card A: to put the memory card back.
ELKS 0.9.2 — the first Unix ever on a 200LX. Log in as root (no password), then try ls, ps, or df. Guided boot takes you back to the DOS world.

The 80C186 can only address 1 MB. The Hornet chip's nine bank windows — C (64 KB) and D0–D3 / E0–E3 (16 KB each) — remap slices of that megabyte onto 3 MB of ROM, banked RAM, or the PCMCIA card. Watch SysMgr slide them as apps run.
